a healthy drink.

Besides Turkish coffee and tea, there's also boza. Made from fermented millet, it's got a thick consistency and a tangy zip mellowed by a layer of cinnamon sprinkled on top. With its wooden bar, tiled interior, and marble boza vat, Vefe Bozacisi continues to keep this Ottoman culinary tradition alive. (Check out that worn doorstop.)

istanbul.

Istanbul is a place I'd return again and again. This was my second trip but unlike my first, I had lots of time to explore the city. It was warm and welcoming, and I wandered back streets, found curious shops, ate fresh food and otherwise fully enjoyed myself, even when I was lost.

eastward.

I hope the passport as we know it endures. Even amidst our paperless push. I treasure its stamped pages and see its blank ones only in terms of future possibilities. I'm heading east tomorrow (hooray!) and hope to post some photos here while traveling if you'd like to follow along.

dining.

These are a few snapshots of a familiar dining space. When I have the chance to sit and eat here, besides the people I'm with, I'm also enjoying these little details - the pink candles (almost always half used), the collection of early American dishware (almost never used) the turquoise glass and pottery, and the plants catching light in the room's corners.
